Navigating the Path to Recovery: What to Expect During Your Detox Journey

The decision to get clean and sober is often a two-part process. There is the initial decision that you just can’t go on living like this anymore and it’s time to do something about it. Then, when the withdrawal sets in, there is the inevitable, “one last time and then we’ll seriously kick this habit” thought. At our program in Nashville, we understand first hand the fear and apprehension around the journey to recovery. It’s not so much that you don’t want to change, it’s the pain of the process that keeps you stuck. Our goal is to make detox as comfortable for you as possible. To ease your concerns and provide clarity, we’ve outlined what you can expect from day one until your discharge. This guide will help you prepare mentally and emotionally for your detox experience.

Day 1: Admission & Assessment

Your first day at Live Again marks a new beginning. You did it. You’re here. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your treatment team who will guide you through the admission process. This involves:

Paperwork & Consent: You’ll fill out the necessary paperwork so we can treat you. This includes medical consent forms, medical history documentation, demographic information, insurance info, etc.

Medical Assessment: Our medical team will give you an evaluation to understand your health status, the severity of your addiction, and any co-occurring disorders. This helps your treatment team create a well-rounded idea of how to best plan your detox and keep you healthy, safe, and comfortable.

Psychological Evaluation: Our mental health professionals will assess your psychological state to identify any underlying mental health issues that need to be addressed during detox. When coupled with the medical assessment and background information, we can create a personalized detox plan just for you.

Days 2-7: Stabilization & Detoxification

Once the initial assessments are complete and you’ve settled into our facility, the detoxification process begins. The primary goal during these days is to stabilize your body and manage withdrawal symptoms.

Medical Monitoring: You will be under 24/7 medical supervision to ensure your safety and comfort. Our medical team will monitor vital signs and administer medications to alleviate withdrawal symptoms as needed.

Hydration & Nutrition: Proper hydration and nutrition are crucial during detox. You’ll receive balanced meals and fluids to help your body recover and heal.

Emotional Support: Withdrawal can be emotionally challenging. Our team and support staff will be available to provide emotional support and encouragement during this time. The majority of our staff are in recovery and have been through detox so we know what you’re going through and are here to support you.

Days 5-7: Planning for the Future

With the detox process nearing completion, the emphasis moves to preparing for a sustainable recovery.

Aftercare Planning: Our team will work with you to develop a personalized aftercare plan, which may include outpatient therapy, support groups, or sober living arrangements. This is all case-dependent and based on your specific needs and recovery goals.

Continued Support: Establishing a support network is vital. We’ll help you connect with local resources and recovery communities in Nashville to ensure you have ongoing support after discharge.

Discharge Day: Stepping into a New Life

The day of discharge is both a celebration and the beginning of a new chapter. Before you leave:

Final Evaluation: A final health check and evaluation will ensure you’re ready to transition out of the facility.

Review of Aftercare Plan: You’ll review your aftercare plan with your treatment team to ensure you understand the next steps and are set up for success.

Farewell & Support: Our staff will bid you farewell, but our support doesn’t end here. You’ll leave with contact information and resources for continued support. We’re here if you need us.
